3/10/2023 0 Comments Groove agent expansion packs![]() The virtual instrument bundle has been updated to include Groove Agent SE 4, a drum machine that allows much deeper editing than the outgoing Groove Agent One. ![]() The £18 upgrade price is extremely reasonable, too. As such, Cubase Elements 8 immediately qualifies as an essential update for existing users. The transformation is more in line with what we'd expect from upgrading to a new PC rather than updating software. Sure enough, projects that were prone to occasional glitches with ASIO Guard disabled played back smoothly with it enabled, with the software's built-in performance meter falling from around 90 to 50 per cent. We saw massive improvements when testing Cubase Artist on a desktop PC, so we installed Cubase Elements on a laptop to see if ASIO Guard 2 delivered similar results. ASIO Guard 2 is better at looking ahead and predicting where spikes in processor, RAM or disk demands will occur, and starts working on them earlier to avoid system overloads.Ĭubase Elements' mix automation tools go way beyond what we'd rightfully expect at this price It’s a reworked version of the engine that enables the software to run multiple tracks, mixer channels, effects and virtual instruments (hopefully) without overloading the computer's hardware resources and causing audio glitches. As with previous versions, there's no attempt to tailor the interface for less experienced users.Ĭubase Artist 8 saw a stunning performance boost with the arrival of ASIO Guard 2, so we're delighted to find it included in Elements too. This is essentially the same software, just with various advanced features, effects and virtual instruments stripped out. It shouldn’t be mistaken for consumer-oriented software, though. It's particularly strong for recording, editing and mixing live instruments, but there's also a generous supply of virtual instruments and MIDI editing tools for those who want to generate sounds inside the software.Ĭubase Elements is the entry-level version, priced well below Cubase Artist at £199 and Cubase Pro at £369. It's elegant, extremely reliable and packed with useful features that never leave us wanting. There are tons of really authentic and heavy patterns in the styles mentioned above, more than enough to get your creative juices flowing. There's a wide range of superb music-production software available, but Steinberg Cubase is the one we turn to for our own recording projects. Playing preset patterns is easy in either version and everything adapts to tempo as you’d expect. ![]() You can play your own patterns of course, but there are some excellent preset MIDI parts included that play within Groove Agent and can be tweaked in the full version of Groove Agent using a special internal MIDI editor. Seriously though, the sounds are pretty cool. ![]() Stylistically the focus is on classic drum and bass, tech pop, dubstep and neurohop : I confess I hadn’t heard of this last one so I’ll take their word for it that this is textbook neurohop material. The developers say that they took the same approach to building this collection that they take to making albums, suggesting that the same amount of attention has gone into making sure everything has a coherent style and feel. You get 30 electronic kits, 572 sounds including kicks, snares, hats, percussion, synths and sound effects and 353 patterns for quick beat programming. From there it simply appears as an option inside Groove Agent like any other sound set. It’s a fairly easy download of around 350MB and you can authorize it either to your USB eLicenser or to your computer’s hard drive. Steinberg's Neuro MindSet for Groove Agent SE4.
